Our Stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground: Tips, Gear & Must-Haves for Campers

🏕We recently spent six magical nights at Disney’s Fort Wilderness with our camper, and it was hands-down one of our favorite Disney stays! If you’re planning your own trip, here are a few things that really enhanced our experience—plus some products I used (and recommend!)

✨Below is a video tour of our Premium Campsite in the 500 Loop. It is Campsite #544.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ValkSbEPkbQ

‼️One of the standout features of the premium campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness is the added sense of privacy and space. These sites offer more concrete pad area, making them perfect for larger RVs, golf cart parking, or even setting up a full outdoor space (like I did!). Unlike the more basic loops, premium sites feel roomier and more secluded, with extra landscaping and buffer zones between neighbors.

✨A MUST HAVE for us from those Florida BUGS🐜 is this bug-shielding/shade provided tent we found on Amazon. It’s a 12×10 screened tent that we put at the back of our campsite. Our picnic table fit perfect inside the tent. We had plenty of room for this and it saved us, especially in the evenings!

🌟Golf Cart Rentals: A Must for Getting Around🌟

Fort Wilderness is a sprawling resort, and getting around can be a lot more fun (and efficient) with a golf cart! We rented ours directly through Disney. It was super convenient and made it easy to zip from our site to the pool, dining areas, and the boat launch to Magic Kingdom.

📞 To reserve a golf cart, call (407) 824-2742 in advance.
They book up fast, especially during peak seasons.

✨ Decorate Your Golf Cart: Disney-Style

One of the most fun parts of the trip was decorating our golf cart! Many guests go all out with lights, banners, and Disney-themed flair. I added battery-operated string lights to ours—and they were a hit!

💡Click here to grab the same lights I used on Amazon (I got the 2 pack)

🖇This link is the zip ties I purchased on Amazon that I tied to the golf cart to hold the lights in place👇

🍳FOOD AND DRINK OPTIONS🍹

Quick Guide to Fort Wilderness Food Options

  • Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue – Classic dinner show with all-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken, ribs, and cornbread. Includes beer and wine.
  • Trail’s End Restaurant – Quick-service meals like fried chicken, ribs, mac & cheese, and hearty breakfast platters. Also available via mobile order.
  • P&J’s Southern Takeout – Convenient spot near the marina with pizza, sandwiches, burgers, and Southern-style meals.
  • Meadow Snack Bar – Poolside eats like hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and Mickey pretzels.
  • The Chuck Wagon – Food truck offering hot dogs, snacks, ice cream, and s’mores kits near the Chip ‘N’ Dale Campfire.
  • Crockett’s Tavern – Casual lounge with drinks and small bites like sliders and fried green tomatoes.

⭐️ During our stay at Fort Wilderness, one of our favorite morning routines was mobile ordering breakfast from Trail’s End Restaurant and cruising over on our golf cart to pick it up. It was super convenient–and delicious! But like anything at Disney, it started to add up quickly. So to balance convenience with budget, we switched to making breakfast right at our campsite using our portable flat top grill, and it was a game changer. From pancakes and eggs to breakfast sandwiches and bacon, it made it easy to cook and clean up was fast! I highly recommend this👇

🏊‍♂️ Poolside Fun at Fort Wilderness Resort

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort offers two distinctive pools catering to different preferences.

Meadow Swimmin’ Pool

Located in the central Meadow Recreation Area, this is the resort’s main pool. It features a 67-foot corkscrew waterslide, a whirlpool spa, and a children’s splash pad with zero-entry access and small water slides. The pool is heated to a comfortable 82°F year-round . Lifeguards are typically on duty from 10 AM to 8 PM, and the pool is open from 10 AM to 11 PM daily. Adjacent to the pool are amenities like ping pong, shuffleboard, and tennis courts, providing additional recreational options.

Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool

Situated near the cabins between loops 2500 and 2700, this smaller, quieter pool is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed environment. It includes a whirlpool spa and is open from 7 AM to 11 PM daily. Please note that this pool does not have a lifeguard on duty.

Important Tips

  • Towels: Guests are required to bring their own towels to the pools, as they are not provided. Extra towels can be requested if staying in the cabins
  • Pool Hours: Pool hours may vary seasonally, so it’s advisable to check the current hours upon arrival.
  • Activities: The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool often hosts daily activities like trivia and games for children, adding to the fun atmosphere.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy thrilling water slides or a peaceful swim, Fort Wilderness Resort’s pools offer something for everyone.

‼️I recommend taking your own water bottle to the pool. This is my favorite water bottle! (Amazon)

  • 🐎 Horseback Riding: Enjoy a 45-minute guided trail ride through Fort Wilderness’ peaceful woodlands. It’s great for beginners and intermediate riders. Currently, rides are only available on weekends due to construction—check the My Disney Experience app for the latest schedule.

  • 🎠 Carriage Rides: Relax on a 25-minute horse-drawn carriage ride through the scenic campground. Each carriage fits up to four adults. Evening rides begin around 5:30 PM, and reservations are recommended through the My Disney Experience app.

🚌🚤 TRANSPORTATION: Getting around Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground can be a bit of an adventure due to its expansive 700-acre layout! However, the resort offers several transportation options to help you get around the resort and to the parks.

🚍 Internal Transportation at Fort Wilderness: Three color-coded bus lines (Yellow, Orange, Purple) run every 15–20 minutes to connect campsites, cabins, and amenities. However, we rented a golf cart which was much more convenient!

🚤 Boat Service to Magic Kingdom: Drive your golf cart down to the Marina and hop on a ferry to Magic Kingdom. It’s about a 15 min boat ride.

🚌 Bus service to other Parks and Resorts: There are 2 main bus stops👇

  • Settlement Bus Depot: Services Magic Kingdom and nearby resorts.
  • Outpost Bus Depot: Located at the front of the resort, this depot offers buses to EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and other resorts

Tips

  • Reserve golf carts early.
  • Allow extra time to get around due to the resort’s size.
  • Check transportation schedules in advance.

🎡 Extra Disney Tips for Families

👶 Stroller Rentals

  • Kingdom Strollers: A popular third-party option for renting high-quality strollers.
    • Why it’s better than park rentals: More comfortable, clean, and often more affordable for multi-day use.
    • Delivery & Pickup: Delivered to your resort or hotel; easy drop-off when you’re done.

⭐️ I always rent the double stroller.. “BOB Revolution Duallie”
‼️This stroller is easy to push and maneuver around the parks!!

🌟🌟PRO TIP🌟🌟
🔹 I bring this stroller organizer with me on every Disney trip for the BOB stroller! It is much larger than what Kingdom Strollers give you and it is a total game-changer! It held our drinks, snacks, phones and multiple bottles of water. The drinks stayed cold d/t the insulated compartment!!
